Ahhh… Can you smell that? It’s the smell of New Beginnings!

Hello! Welcome to paigempowell.wordpress.com, your weekly stop for topics on inspiration sharing and social issues around the world! I would like to start by saying that this is my first official blog ever. Writing has always been of great comfort for me, so after quite some time I have finally decided to take the step forward to express and share these thoughts and ideas with you, the reader. I’ve also decided to start up this blog to practice writing. Practice, in which, I may humbly share my views on the world with you, as well as my daily inspirations. The truth is that there have always been things in this world that have grasped my attention. Some more than others; issues ranging from LGBT rights, activism, religion and secularism, societal pressures on youth, goal setting, to positive psychology. These are the issues I would like to share my thoughts with you about. And if you would be so kind as to give me a chance to enlighten you, or even simply challenge your perspective(s), with my words, that would be amazing. Thus, a follow or a comment on any of my future blog posts would be wonderful.

So without further ado, let’s get to know me:
My name is Paige. Quite fitting to someone who has a knack for writing words on a page, eh? I feel that it is in my nature to fill pages up with my thoughts for I am a Paige that is brimming with thoughts myself. Naturally, I am an introverted individual. I thrive off of quietness and solitude. I enjoy my alone time more often than my time with others. That is not to say that I am anti-social, but rather that I am deeply energized when I am given that time to think and reflect about my current life events and surroundings. I am an incredibly innovative individual with dreams to make it big in the world within my own comfort zone (one that is far from the extrovert ideal). I dream to write; to create stories, to re-style old stories, to report on societal issues, and to empathize with the marginalized all through my writing. My intentions for writing is so that one day I can make a career out of it. It is an innate passion that wills me to create expressive thoughts so that I can share it with you, the reader. This blog is my outlet to those goals, dreams and aspirations. I can only hope you enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoy writing.

So you might be wondering where I get the knowledge and brevity to talk about these issues? I am currently 23 years old and 3 months shy of graduating with a BA in Sociology with honours. It may seem obvious where this interest in social issues has come from now. Actually, to be honest, I have always felt there are injustices in the world that we need to shed light on. I have just never had so much perspective as I have gained throughout my three years in this sociology program. I am quite interested in the areas of social justice and observing the inequalities that envelop our world.

For one, I am thoughtfully invested in the LGBT movement. Having suffered the injustices and prejudices that come with being LGBT, I have come to understand a form of inequality in which pain and suffering is a norm, unfortunately. I empathize with the lives of the marginalized and I aim to spread awareness about what we can do to improve these lives not simply on a mass societal scale, but on an individual level. Social change comes with the price of one. All we need is one person to stand up for what they believe in and the rest will follow. With enough people in the world taking a stand for what they believe in, we can bring forth that change that we demand from the institutions standing “tall and mighty” before us. I believe in a better world and I want to write about it. With that said, I welcome you to my blog. I will be your host throughout the duration of this journey. Should you have any questions or concerns, please by all means leave a comment.

Regards,
Paige
